Being a 1895 built villa, there were many challenges on this job. The owners wanted a re-design and due to the age we had to keep the exterior look. We started by stripping the inside and keeping as much of the original exterior structure as we could while making good of the exterior cladding. All the floors were replaced with ply-wood with an overlay of Rimu tongue and groove on top, the kitchen and bathroom were demolished and rebuilt on the other side of the house to allow natural light through the large new sliding doors. The modern kitchen was finished with a stainless bench top and timber cabinets to keep with the look of the house. The addition made the most of the small space while including all the family’s needs.
